Feature Summary
The Content Activity Log records who changed a piece of content in your Library and when the change happened. Every file and link keeps its own log, showing actions such as renaming, replacing, and label generation in one list. Anyone with access to the content can open the log from the content drawer in the Library or from the Content Dashboard on the Account Overview page. Buyers never see the Content Activity Log - it is visible only inside your Aligned account.
Prerequisites
Plan: availability depends on your plan - see the Aligned pricing page.
Role: Any user with access to the content. Users who cannot access a folder cannot open the content inside it, so they cannot see its activity log either
Technical: No setup required. The Content Activity Log is available on desktop and on mobile. On mobile, open it from the Content Dashboard tab on the Account Overview page
How to open the Content Activity Log
Open the Content Activity Log from any screen that shows the content drawer.
Navigate to Library in the left sidebar.
Select Company Library or My Library.
Click the content you want to review. The content drawer opens on the right.
Scroll to the bottom of the drawer.
Find the Activity section below Content Analytics and Advanced Content Analytics.
You can also reach the same log from the Account Overview page:
Navigate to Overview in the left sidebar.
Open the Content Dashboard tab.
Click any piece of content in the list. The same drawer opens with the same Activity section.
The Content Activity Log shows identical rows in both locations because the log belongs to the content itself, not to the screen you opened it from.
How to read an activity row
Each row in the Content Activity Log names the person, the action, and the time in a single sentence.
The person's name appears at the start of the row.
The action follows the name.
The time appears on the right side of the row.
A date header groups all rows that happened on the same day.
Rows are ordered newest first. The most recent change appears at the top of the log, and the row recording when the content was first added appears at the bottom.
Date and time format
Date headers read Today, Yesterday, or a date such as Aug 22.
Date headers include the year for anything more than a year old, such as Jun 2, 2025.
Each row shows the clock time only, such as 16:40.
Hover over the time to see the full date and time.
Which actions appear in the Content Activity Log
The Content Activity Log records five actions.
Action | How the row reads |
Content added | Oded Berg added this content |
Content renamed | Daniella Bromkish renamed this content to "Q3 pitch deck v5" |
Content replaced | Priel Ishai replaced the content |
AI label added | Aligned AI added the label "Marketing Collateral" |
Internal or external changed | Gal Deitsch made this content internal, removing it from 3 rooms and 2 templates |
Viewing a previous name
When someone renames content, the row shows the new name and a Show previous link appears below it.
Find the row that reads renamed this content to.
Click Show previous.
The name the content had before the change appears below the row.
Show previous reveals the name that came immediately before the change, not the first name the content ever had. Content renamed several times has a separate row for each rename, each with its own Show previous link.
Rows for Aligned AI
Aligned AI generates a label when content is added to the Library and generates a new label every time the content is replaced. Each generated label creates its own row in the Content Activity Log, marked with the Aligned AI icon. Accounts with AI labels turned off get no Aligned AI rows at all, because no labels are generated.
Rows for internal and external changes
Switching content to internal removes it from every Room and template it appeared in, and the row names how many of each. Switching content back to external does not add it back to those Rooms, so that row never shows counts. Content is external by default when you add it, and that default does not create a row. Changing several pieces of content at once writes a separate row into each one rather than a single row for the whole batch.
How to see older activity
Content with 12 or more rows hides the middle of the log so the newest changes and the original entry both stay visible.
Scroll to the bottom of the Activity section.
Click Show 3 previous updates. The number matches how many rows are hidden.
The hidden rows expand in place.
Click Show less to collapse them again.
Content with 11 rows or fewer shows every row with no link, because there is nothing to hide.
Content Activity Log vs. Content Analytics
Both sections appear in the same content drawer and answer different questions. Content Analytics tells you how buyers engaged with the content. The Content Activity Log tells you how your own team changed it.
Content Activity Log | Content Analytics | |
Best for | Finding out who changed content and when | Finding out how buyers viewed and used content |
Key difference | Records actions taken by your team inside Aligned | Records views, time spent, and downloads by room visitors |
Limitations
Actions recorded: The Content Activity Log records five actions - content added, renamed, replaced, AI label added, and internal or external changed. Moving content between folders, changing access, archiving, restoring, downloading, sharing, and adding or removing labels manually do not create rows.
Deleted content: Deleted content has no drawer to open, so deletions never appear in a Content Activity Log.
History before release: Aligned did not record most actions before the Content Activity Log was released. On content added before then, the log shows a single row naming the content owner and the date the content was created. Changes made before the release do not appear.
Turning it off: The Content Activity Log cannot be turned off. It appears in the content drawer for everyone with access to the content.
Export: You cannot export or download the Content Activity Log.
Filtering and sorting: The Content Activity Log has no filters and no sort control. The order is always newest first.
Mobile: On mobile, open the Content Activity Log from the Content Dashboard tab on the Account Overview page. The drawer shows the same rows as on desktop.
Troubleshooting & FAQ
Expected states
The Content Activity Log shows only one row
What this means: Aligned did not record most actions before the Content Activity Log was released, so content added before then has a single row built from the content owner and the creation date.
How to fix it: No action is needed. New rows appear as your team renames, replaces, or changes the content from now on.
How to avoid it: This applies only to content added before the release. Content added after the release records every supported action from the start.
The name in the first row changed
What this means: On content added before the Content Activity Log was released, Aligned builds the first row from the current content owner rather than from a record of the original upload. The owner changes when someone replaces the content, and when a user is removed from the account and their content moves to someone else. The first row follows the owner, so it changes too.
How to fix it: No action is needed. Every row recorded after the release is fixed and never changes, including after the person who performed the action leaves the account.
How to avoid it: This applies only to the first row on content added before the release.
FAQ
Q: Who can see the Content Activity Log?
Q: Who can see the Content Activity Log?
Anyone with access to the content can see its Content Activity Log. Access follows your existing Library permissions - if you cannot open a folder, you cannot open the content inside it or view its activity log.
Q: Can buyers see the Content Activity Log?
Q: Can buyers see the Content Activity Log?
Buyers cannot see the Content Activity Log. It appears only inside your Aligned account, in the Library and on the Content Dashboard.
Q: Does the Content Activity Log appear on My Library content?
Q: Does the Content Activity Log appear on My Library content?
The Content Activity Log appears on My Library content exactly as it does on Company Library content, with the same rows and the same order. You can only see your own My Library, so you can only see activity logs for your own My Library content.
Q: Why does a name in the activity log belong to someone who left the company?
Q: Why does a name in the activity log belong to someone who left the company?
Aligned keeps the name on every recorded row even after a user is removed from the account. The log records who performed each action at the time, so the name of a person who has since left still appears on the rows for the actions they took. The one exception is the first row on content added before the release, which follows the current content owner.
Q: Whose name appears on changes that come from Google Drive folder sync?
Q: Whose name appears on changes that come from Google Drive folder sync?
Changes that arrive through folder sync are recorded under the person who synced the folder, not under Google Drive. A rename or a replacement made in Google Drive appears in the Content Activity Log the same way as any other change, with that person's name on it.
Q: Why does the content owner differ from the person named in the first row?
Q: Why does the content owner differ from the person named in the first row?
The content owner shows who is responsible for the content now, and the first row shows who added it. When ownership moves to a different person, the owner changes and the activity row stays as it was recorded. On content added before the Content Activity Log was released, the first row follows the current owner instead, so the two always match.
Q: Does replacing content create more than one row?
Q: Does replacing content create more than one row?
Replacing content creates two rows - one recording the replacement and one recording the new label that Aligned AI generates for the new content. Accounts with AI labels turned off get only the replacement row.
Q: What happens to the activity log when I switch content to internal?
Q: What happens to the activity log when I switch content to internal?
Switching content to internal adds a row naming how many Rooms and templates the content was removed from. The content stays in your Library as internal content and the rest of the activity log stays unchanged.
Q: Can I undo an action from the Content Activity Log?
Q: Can I undo an action from the Content Activity Log?
You cannot undo an action from the Content Activity Log. The log records what happened and does not reverse any action.
Q: Can I see the Content Activity Log on mobile?
Q: Can I see the Content Activity Log on mobile?
You can see the Content Activity Log on mobile. Open Overview, go to the Content Dashboard tab, and tap any piece of content. The drawer opens with the same Activity section and the same rows you see on desktop.
Unexpected errors
Q: Why is the Content Activity Log not loading?
Q: Why is the Content Activity Log not loading?
Refresh the page first. If the section stays empty, contact Aligned support with the name of the content, the Library it sits in, and the time you tried to open it.
Security & Data Handling
The Content Activity Log stores the action, the person who performed it, and the time it happened, on the content itself. Aligned applies no retention limit to the log - every recorded action stays in the log for as long as the content exists. Deleting content removes its activity log along with it, since the content no longer exists.
Aligned does not rewrite activity rows when a user is removed from the account or when content ownership moves to a different person. Rows keep the name recorded at the time the action happened. The one exception is the first row on content added before the Content Activity Log was released, which follows the current content owner.
