Gong MCP Client: Connecting Aligned to Your Gong Calls

Written by Nadav Weiss

Feature Summary

Gong MCP Client lets the Aligned Seller Agent use Gong-generated insights from your company's calls and emails while a seller builds a Room. The Seller Agent uses your own Gong permissions, so it only reaches accounts you can already open in Gong. Before anyone on the team can connect, a Gong system administrator registers Aligned once inside Gong. After that registration is complete, each person connects their own Gong account with a single click and enters nothing.

Prerequisites

  • Plan: availability depends on your plan - see the Aligned pricing page.

  • Role: Anyone in Aligned can connect Gong MCP Client for themselves. The one-time registration inside Gong requires a Gong system administrator - this is a Gong role, not an Aligned role.

  • Technical: A paid Gong seat and the Connect via MCP permission in your Gong profile. Gong collaborator accounts cannot connect.

How to register Aligned in Gong

A Gong system administrator performs these steps once for the whole company. Everyone else can skip to the next section.

  1. In Gong, go to Admin center.

  2. Select Settings.

  3. Select Ecosystem.

  4. Select MCP.

  5. Open MCP servers.

  6. Click New MCP server integration.

  7. In the integration name, enter Aligned Seller Assist.

  8. In Redirect URI, enter https://my.teamaligned.com/api/v1/mcpConnectors/callback.

  9. Set Registration type to Automatic. This cannot be changed after you save.

  10. Set Authorization context to Personal. This cannot be changed after you save.

  11. Allow the scopes mcp:ai-ask:read and mcp:ai-briefer:read.

  12. Click Save.

  13. Click Done to finish the setup.

How to connect Gong MCP Client in Aligned

  1. In Aligned, go to Settings.

  2. Open the MCP tab.

  3. Find Gong under MCP Client.

  4. Click Connect.

  5. Sign in to Gong and approve access.

Gong MCP Client requires no key and no configuration. Once the registration inside Gong is complete, connecting takes one click.

What clients see

Clients see no indication that Gong MCP Client is connected, and nothing is written back to Gong. The Seller Agent receives Gong-generated insights from calls and emails - raw recordings, transcripts, and email bodies are not returned by this connector. For how the Seller Agent adds content to a Room, see AI Seller Agent.

Gong MCP Client vs. the Gong integration

Aligned offers two separate Gong connections, and they solve different problems.

Gong MCP Client

Gong integration

Best for

Letting the Seller Agent read call and email context while building a Room

Sharing Gong call recordings inside a Room

Key difference

Read-only, per person, uses each person's own Gong permissions

Account-level, configured once by an Aligned Admin

Connecting one does not connect the other. A company can use either, both, or neither.

Limitations

  • Gong MCP Client is read-only. Nothing is written back to Gong.

  • Every person connects individually. Connecting Gong MCP Client for yourself does not connect it for anyone else on the team.

  • A paid Gong seat is required. Gong collaborator accounts cannot connect.

  • The Connect via MCP permission must be enabled on your Gong profile.

  • Gong consumes credits for MCP tool calls that analyze calls and emails. This is a Gong charge, not an Aligned one, and it applies on top of seat licensing.

  • Aligned cannot detect whether the one-time registration was completed. A failed connection is the first indication that the registration is missing.

Troubleshooting & FAQ

Expected errors and blocks

"Gong isn't set up yet"

What this means: Aligned has not been registered in your company's Gong account, so Gong rejected the connection. The one-time registration described above has not been completed.

How to fix it: If you are a Gong system administrator, follow the registration steps above. If you are not, click Copy guide link in the message and send the link to whoever manages Gong at your company.

How to avoid it: Ask your Gong system administrator whether Aligned has been registered before attempting to connect.

The connection fails and you hold a Gong collaborator account

What this means: Gong collaborator accounts cannot authorize MCP connections. The connection requires a paid Gong seat.

How to fix it: Ask your Gong system administrator to assign you a paid Gong seat, then connect again.

How to avoid it: Confirm your Gong seat type before attempting to connect.

The connection fails and you hold a paid Gong seat

What this means: The Connect via MCP permission is missing from your Gong profile. The seat type is correct but the permission is not enabled.

How to fix it: Ask your Gong system administrator to enable Connect via MCP on your Gong profile, then connect again.

How to avoid it: Ask your Gong system administrator to enable the permission for everyone who will use the connector at the same time as the registration.

The connection works but the Seller Agent returns nothing from Gong

What this means: Your organization may have run out of Gong credits. Gong consumes credits when MCP tool calls analyze calls and emails, even when your seat and permission are both correct.

How to fix it: Ask your Gong system administrator to check the organization's remaining credits.

How to avoid it: Confirm the organization has available credits before rolling the connector out to the team.

Unexpected errors

Q: Why does my Gong connection fail even though the registration was completed?

A connection that fails after a completed registration usually points to a scope or configuration value that does not match the registration steps. Ask your Gong system administrator to confirm that registration type is Automatic, authorization context is Personal, and both scopes are allowed. If the settings are correct and the connection still fails, contact Aligned support with your Gong workspace name and the approximate time of the failed attempt.

FAQ

Q: Do I need a key to connect Gong MCP Client?

Gong MCP Client requires no key. Once a Gong system administrator has registered Aligned inside Gong, you connect with one click and enter nothing.

Q: Do I need to be an Aligned Admin to connect Gong MCP Client?

Any Aligned user can connect Gong MCP Client for themselves. The role that matters is in Gong, not in Aligned - the one-time registration requires a Gong system administrator.

Q: Can the Seller Agent read calls I cannot access in Gong?

The Seller Agent uses your own Gong permissions, so it reaches exactly the accounts and calls you can already open in Gong and nothing beyond them.

Q: Does connecting Gong MCP Client change my existing Gong integration?

Gong MCP Client and the Gong integration are separate connections with separate settings. Connecting one has no effect on the other.

Q: Does every person on my team need to do the registration in Gong?

The registration inside Gong happens once for the whole company. Each person then connects their own Gong account in Aligned.

Q: Can I disconnect Gong MCP Client?

You can disconnect at any time from Settings → MCP by clicking Disconnect on the Gong card. Disconnecting affects only your own connection - everyone else on the team stays connected.

Security & Data Handling

The authorization context is Personal, so each person authorizes separately and disconnecting one person does not affect anyone else. Raw recordings, transcripts, and email bodies are never returned through this connector.
