Client Agent in Aligned is controlled at more than one level: an admin switches it on for the whole account, each user sets the default for the Rooms they create, and the Room owner decides whether it runs in a specific Room. This article covers what admins control and where.
Where account-level Client Agent settings live
Open the Admin Center from the avatar dropdown at the top of Aligned, then open the AI Settings tab. The Admin Center opens in a separate browser tab and is available to Admins and Owners only. Members and Managers cannot open it.
Plan: availability depends on your plan — see the Aligned pricing page.
Role: Admin or Owner for account-level settings. Every user can set their own default for new Rooms. Room-level control belongs to the Room owner.
Turning Client Agent on for the account
In AI Settings, use the Enable AI Assist toggle.
Two things to know before you flip it:
Changes affect existing Rooms, not just new ones. Turning Client Agent off at account level removes it from Rooms that are already live and shared with buyers.
Once enabled, you also get a usage view showing how many AI responses your company has used out of its allowance, and a place to enter general prompts about your company so the agent can answer buyer questions it cannot find in the Room itself.
Setting your own default for new Rooms
Account-level enablement makes Client Agent available. It does not switch it on everywhere. Each user sets the default Client Agent state for the Rooms they create in their personal Settings. Changing that default does not affect Rooms that already exist.
Turning Client Agent on inside a specific Room
A Room owner enables it per Room from Room Settings → Permissions → Enable AI Assist. Only the Room owner controls this, and it works only when Client Agent is enabled at account level.
Comments must be enabled in the Room first — Client Agent answers run through the comments layer, so without comments the feature will not work.
Controlling what buyers see
Enabling Client Agent in a Room does not force the agent into the buyer's view. Inside the Room, open the chat and use Hide in Room or Show in Room to control whether buyers see it at all.
This is the setting to reach for when you want AI answers available on some deals but not others without changing account-level configuration.
What Client Agent can and cannot see
Client Agent answers are based only on content visible to the person asking. It reads the text content of the Room — section names, file names, comments, and tasks — plus the general company prompts an admin has entered.
This matters in a security review: a buyer cannot use the agent to reach content they could not already open themselves. If a buyer cannot access a document, Client Agent does not use it in an answer.

Troubleshooting & FAQ
Q: Buyers cannot see the agent in one of my Rooms.
Q: Buyers cannot see the agent in one of my Rooms.
Check three things, in order: Client Agent is enabled at account level in the Admin Center, comments are enabled in that Room, and the chat is set to Show in Room. Only the Room owner can change the Room-level setting.
Q: I turned Client Agent off for the account. What happens to Rooms already shared with buyers?
Q: I turned Client Agent off for the account. What happens to Rooms already shared with buyers?
It is removed from those Rooms too. The account-level setting applies to existing Rooms, not only new ones.
Q: I changed my default for new Rooms. Why did nothing change in my current Rooms?
Q: I changed my default for new Rooms. Why did nothing change in my current Rooms?
The personal default applies to Rooms created after the change. Existing Rooms keep whatever the Room owner set.
Q: Can a buyer use Client Agent to see content we have hidden from them?
Q: Can a buyer use Client Agent to see content we have hidden from them?
No. Answers are built only from content that is visible to the person asking.
Q: The settings in Aligned say "AI Assist". Is that the same thing?
Q: The settings in Aligned say "AI Assist". Is that the same thing?
Yes. The feature is called Client Agent. Some settings in the app still carry the earlier name, AI Assist, and the toggles referred to in this article are the ones you will see on screen.
