Aligned MCP: Query Deal Rooms and Build Them from Your AI Assistant

Aligned MCP guide for Enterprise sellers: query deal rooms and build them (create rooms, add tabs, sections, and MAP items) from an AI assistant like Claude or ChatGPT.

Written by Nadav Weiss

Feature Summary

Aligned MCP (Model Context Protocol) connects your Aligned account to an AI assistant such as Claude or ChatGPT, so you can query and build deal rooms in plain language instead of clicking through the web app. Reading capabilities let you pull pipeline briefs, single-room analytics, Mutual Action Plan status, engagement, and room content. Writing capabilities let you create a new room, add tabs and sections, and add Mutual Action Plan stages and tasks — each change confirmed by your assistant before it is made. New tabs and sections you create are hidden from buyers until you make them visible in the Aligned app. Aligned MCP is available on the Enterprise plan.

Prerequisites

  • Plan: Enterprise

  • Role: Any Enterprise user can query and build their own rooms. Admins can also query rooms owned by other users. Writing is limited to rooms you own.

  • Technical: Aligned must be connected to your AI assistant, and you must grant the write permission when you connect. See the Aligned MCP connection guide to set this up.

How to query your rooms

Ask your AI assistant a question about your deals in plain language. Aligned MCP reads live room data and returns the answer.

  1. Open your connected AI assistant.

  2. Enter a question that names a deal, company, or your pipeline.

  3. Read the answer the assistant returns.

Common read requests:

  • Pipeline brief: "What's moved across my rooms this week?"

  • Single-room brief: "Give me a rundown of the Acme deal."

  • Mutual Action Plan status: "What's overdue in the Acme action plan?"

  • Room content search: "Did I upload the Q2 pricing deck to the Acme room?"

  • Stakeholder engagement: "Who's most engaged in the Acme room?"

All Aligned MCP skills

Aligned MCP exposes 16 skills your AI assistant calls automatically based on your request — 10 read skills that answer questions about your deals, and 6 write skills that build and edit rooms you own. Write skills require the mcp:write permission and are confirmed by your assistant before they run.

How to build a new room

Create a new room by describing it to your assistant. Room creation always runs in two steps: your assistant renders a preview first, and the room is created only after you approve it.

  1. Tell your assistant you want to build a room, and name the buyer company.

  2. Answer where the room should start from — duplicate one of your existing rooms, use a template, or start from scratch. Your assistant will ask; there is no default.

  3. Review the preview your assistant renders. The preview shows every tab and section the new room will contain.

  4. Request any changes, then review the updated preview.

  5. Approve the preview to build the room.

A room built from scratch is created with Aligned's standard starter tabs: Overview, Files, Plan (a Mutual Action Plan), and a seller-only Internal tab. Your planned tabs and sections are added on top.

What buyers see

Buyers see nothing from a new room until you share it, and any tab or section created through Aligned MCP stays hidden from buyers until you make it visible in the Aligned app. Sharing the room with a buyer does not make hidden sections visible — you unhide each one yourself in the app.

How to add a tab to an existing room

Add a new tab to a room you own by asking your assistant. Only General tabs can be added through Aligned MCP; the Mutual Action Plan and Files tabs are built in at room creation and cannot be added or removed.

  1. Name the room and tell your assistant to add a tab, with the tab title.

  2. Confirm the change when your assistant asks.

  3. Open the room in the Aligned app and make the tab visible to buyers when you're ready.

If your account has a saved tab template that matches what you need (for example, a Security tab), ask for it by name and your assistant will add the full template tab instead of a blank one.

How to add a section

Add a section to a room you own by describing its content to your assistant. Aligned MCP supports five section types:

  • Text: prose, summaries, or notes.

  • Single embedded: one link, embed, or attached asset (for example, a Google Slides deck or a Loom video).

  • List: an ordered list of links and resources shown as cards.

  • Multiple embedded: a carousel of decks, videos, or documents.

  • Action items: a Mutual Action Plan of stages and tasks.

  1. Name the room and describe the section content.

  2. Confirm the target tab and placement when your assistant asks.

  3. Confirm the change.

  4. Make the section visible in the Aligned app when you're ready.

A section added to a buyer-facing tab is created hidden. A section added to a seller-only Internal tab is created visible, because buyers never see Internal tabs.

How to add Mutual Action Plan items

Add stages and tasks to a Mutual Action Plan in a room you own by asking your assistant. Aligned MCP adds to a plan; it never edits or removes existing stages or tasks.

  1. Name the room and describe the stage or tasks to add.

  2. Confirm the change when your assistant asks.

  3. Open the plan in the Aligned app to set each task's owner, due date, and status.

Tasks are created with a title only. Owners, due dates, and status are set in the Aligned app, not through Aligned MCP.

Building through Aligned MCP vs. building in the Aligned app

Aligned MCP and the Aligned web app both create and edit rooms. Use Aligned MCP when you want to build or update from your AI assistant right after a call; use the Aligned app for hands-on layout work, uploading new files, and setting task owners and due dates.

Limitations

  • Plan: Aligned MCP is available on the Enterprise plan only.

  • Write permission: Writing requires the mcp:write permission granted when you connect. If you connected with read access only, reconnect and grant write.

  • Own rooms only: You can create and edit only rooms you own. You cannot write to rooms owned by other users.

  • Hidden by default: Tabs and sections created through Aligned MCP are hidden from buyers until you make them visible in the Aligned app. Sharing the room does not make them visible.

  • Mutual Action Plan tasks are title-only: Owners, due dates, and status are set in the Aligned app.

  • Tab types: Only General tabs can be created. The Mutual Action Plan and Files tabs are built in at room creation and cannot be added or removed.

  • No new file uploads: Aligned MCP attaches existing library assets and links. It does not upload new files from your device — upload those in the Aligned app.

  • Room creation limit: New room creation is limited to 10 rooms per 24-hour period.

  • Partial builds: If one section fails during a room build, the rest of the room is still created. Your assistant reports which items failed so you can finish them in the Aligned app.

Troubleshooting & FAQ

Expected errors and blocks

Write action not authorized

What this means: Your connection has read access only, so writing is blocked. Aligned MCP separates read and write permissions.

How to fix it: Reconnect Aligned to your AI assistant and grant the write permission during the connection step.

How to avoid it: Grant write access when you first connect if you plan to build or edit rooms.

"Room not found"

What this means: The room you named either does not exist or is not one you own. Aligned returns the same message in both cases on purpose, so no one can discover rooms they cannot access.

How to fix it: Confirm the room name or CRM link, and confirm you are the room owner. You can create and edit only rooms you own.

CRM required

What this means: The room build depends on a linked CRM object that is not connected.

How to fix it: Link the deal in your CRM, then ask your assistant to build the room again.

Non-Enterprise access removed

What this means: Aligned MCP is Enterprise-only. A non-Enterprise account that connects loses access.

How to fix it: Contact your Aligned account team about Enterprise access.

Unexpected errors

Q: Why did part of my room fail to build?

Room building is best-effort, so one failed section does not stop the rest of the room from being created. Check which items your assistant reported as failed, add them in the Aligned app, and if they keep failing, contact Aligned support with the room name and the failed section details.

FAQ

Q: Why can't my buyer see the tab or section I added through Aligned MCP?

Tabs and sections created through Aligned MCP are hidden from buyers by default, and sharing the room does not unhide them. Open the room in the Aligned app and make each tab or section visible when you're ready.

Q: Can I build a room for another rep?

You can create and edit only rooms you own through Aligned MCP. To work on another rep's room, that rep builds it from their own connected assistant, or you edit it in the Aligned app if you have access.

Q: Can I set task owners and due dates on a Mutual Action Plan from my assistant?

Mutual Action Plan tasks created through Aligned MCP have a title only. Open the plan in the Aligned app to set each task's owner, due date, and status.

Q: Does Aligned MCP upload files from my computer?

Aligned MCP does not upload new files from your device. It attaches existing library assets and links; upload new files in the Aligned app.

Security & Data Handling

Aligned MCP connects through OAuth 2.1 with PKCE. Read and write permissions are separate scopes: reading uses mcp:read and writing uses mcp:write. Your AI assistant asks you to confirm every write before it is made. Aligned returns "Room not found" for both missing and unauthorized rooms so rooms cannot be discovered by people who cannot access them.

Pro Tips

  • Always read the preview before approving a room build — it shows every tab and section the room will contain, so you catch mistakes before the room exists.

  • After building or editing through Aligned MCP, do one pass in the Aligned app to unhide the tabs and sections buyers should see. Nothing you add is visible to buyers until you do.

  • Ask for a saved tab template by name (for example, "add our Security tab") instead of a blank tab, so the tab arrives with its sections already built.
