Aligned MCP for ChatGPT - Setup & how to use

Written by Nadav Weiss

The ChatGPT Integration connects an Aligned account to ChatGPT through the Model Context Protocol (MCP), allowing sellers to query and build their own deal rooms - and admins to query any room in the account - directly from a ChatGPT conversation. Once connected, asking ChatGPT about a deal returns grounded answers pulled live from the Aligned room - including stakeholder engagement, MAP / Next Steps, content interactions, and last activity - and you can ask it to build a room, add tabs and sections, and add MAP items without leaving the conversation.

Prerequisites

  • Plan: Enterprise plan only.

  • Role: Any user in Aligned

  • Technical: An active paid ChatGPT account.

    • ChatGPT Free does not support custom MCP connectors, so Aligned cannot be connected on a Free account.

    • On personal paid plans you can enable Developer Mode and add Aligned yourself.

    • On managed workspaces a ChatGPT workspace admin must enable Developer Mode and publish Aligned first.

These values also appear in the Setup modal inside Aligned when you click Enable on the ChatGPT card.

Setup and how to use

The ChatGPT Integration has two setup paths depending on whether your ChatGPT workspace requires admin approval for custom connectors:

  • If your workspace does not require admin approval -> You can enable Developer Mode and add Aligned yourself. Follow the steps under "User setup" below.

  • If your workspace requires admin approval -> A ChatGPT workspace admin must grant Developer Mode access or authorize Aligned before you can connect. Follow the steps under "Admin setup" below.

If you're not sure which applies to you, try enabling Developer Mode yourself - if the option is missing, your workspace requires admin approval (see below).

Setup info to use in ChatGPT:

  • Name: Aligned

  • URL: https://my.teamaligned.com/api/v1/mcp

Admin setup

On managed workspaces, individual members cannot create custom connectors. The ChatGPT workspace admin must enable Developer Mode, create the Aligned connector, and publish it to the workspace directory first. Members then activate it.

If this step doesn't apply to you, you can skip it and move on to the User setup section below.

Seller steps:

  1. Copy the Connector URL: https://my.teamaligned.com/api/v1/mcp.

  2. Share the URL and the admin instructions below with your ChatGPT workspace admin.

  3. Wait for your admin to publish Aligned to the workspace directory.

  4. Once published, open ChatGPT and navigate to Settings -> Apps. Find Aligned in the list, then click Manage and Connect.

  5. On the Aligned-hosted OAuth page, sign in to Aligned (if not already signed in) and click Approve.

  6. Start a new chat in ChatGPT and make sure Aligned is enabled before asking about a deal.

What your ChatGPT workspace admin needs to do:

  1. In the ChatGPT Admin Console, go to Workspace Settings -> Permissions & Roles and turn on Developer Mode (the "Create custom MCP connectors" permission).

  2. Go to Settings -> Apps and click +Create.

  3. Enter the Name (Aligned) and the Connection URL (https://my.teamaligned.com/api/v1/mcp), then confirm.

  4. Publish the connector: in the Admin Console or Apps menu, locate Aligned and select Show in directory (or assign it to the relevant user permissions) so members can find and activate it.

User setup

  1. In Aligned, navigate to Settings -> Integrations -> My Integrations.

  2. Locate the ChatGPT card and click Enable.

  3. In the Enable modal, copy the Connector Name (Aligned) and URL.

  4. In ChatGPT, navigate to Settings -> Workspace Settings -> Permissions & Roles and toggle Developer Mode on.

  5. Go to Settings -> Apps and click Create app.

  6. Fill in the form: Name (Aligned) and the Connection URL (https://my.teamaligned.com/api/v1/mcp), then Create.

  7. On the Aligned-hosted OAuth page, sign in to Aligned (if not already signed in) and click Approve.

  8. Start a new chat in ChatGPT and make sure Aligned is enabled before asking about a deal.

How to disconnect

Disconnect happens entirely on the ChatGPT side - there is no Disconnect button inside Aligned.

  1. Open ChatGPT and navigate to Settings -> Apps.

  2. Locate Aligned in the apps list.

  3. Click Disconnect or remove the app.

  4. Confirm the removal.

After disconnecting, Aligned no longer receives queries from ChatGPT.

Where the ChatGPT Integration works

The Aligned ChatGPT Integration works in every ChatGPT surface that supports MCP connectors - ChatGPT web (chatgpt.com), ChatGPT Desktop, and ChatGPT Mobile. To use Aligned in any surface, add the connector using the same Name and URL. The same URL also works with other remote-MCP-compatible AI assistants.

What can you do with Aligned in ChatGPT?

Once connected, ask ChatGPT about any active deal and get grounded answers pulled live from your Aligned room - or ask it to build one. Common workflows include:

  • Pre-call deal prep: "Bring me up to speed on the Acme deal - I have a call in 15 minutes”

  • Personalized follow-up writing: "Draft a follow-up email for Globex referencing what they've engaged with this week”

  • Deal health & risk check: "Is the Acme deal at risk? What should I flag in tomorrow's pipeline review?”

  • Stakeholder engagement mapping: "Who are the most engaged stakeholders on Globex, and who's gone silent?”

  • MAP & Next Steps tracking: "What's overdue on the Acme MAP and who owns each item?”

  • Spinning up a new room: "Build me a room for the Initech deal from our Enterprise template”

  • Filling a room out: "Add a security review section to the Acme room and add three onboarding stages to the MAP”

Available Tools

The Aligned MCP connector provides 16 skills - 10 read and 6 write. Read access is bounded by your own Aligned permissions. Write is limited to rooms you own, and ChatGPT asks you to confirm every write before it runs.

  • Deal overview - a quick brief on any deal (engagement, top stakeholders, MAP status, and pending AI insights).

  • Engagement & people - who's been active and for how long, the stakeholder roster including buyer-side stakeholders not yet added as contacts, and a deep-dive on any one person.

  • Deal health & next steps - MAP completion status, overdue items and assignees, AI-generated opportunities and risk flags, and recent buyer comments.

  • Content - search for files, decks, or sections inside a room.

  • Cross-deal - a pipeline briefing of what needs your attention today across all your active deals, and finding or listing rooms across your pipeline.

  • Building - create a room from a duplicate, a template, or from scratch; add tabs and sections; add stages and tasks to a MAP; and apply a banner and client logo.

Detailed skill list

Below are the specific skills ChatGPT can call. You don't need to memorize these - ChatGPT picks the right one automatically based on your question.

Skill

Type

Ask ChatGPT

What you get

Pipeline / morning briefing

Read

"Catch me up."

A unified list of deals needing attention today, sorted by urgency.

Search rooms

Read

"Which deals went quiet this week?"

Rooms across your pipeline, filtered or listed.

Keyword-matched sections and resources with a snippet and deep link.

Build a room

Write

"Build a room for Initech from our Enterprise template."

A room plan you review first, then the room once you approve it. Built from a duplicate, a template, or from scratch.

Add a tab

Write

"Add a Security tab to the Acme room."

A new General tab. Lands hidden from buyers.

Add a tab from template

Write

"Add our Onboarding tab template to Acme."

A saved tab template, instantiated in the room. Lands hidden from buyers.

Add a section

Write

"Add a text section summarising the security review."

A Text, Single-embedded, List, Multiple-embedded, or Action-items section.

Add MAP items

Write

"Add three onboarding stages to the Acme MAP."

New stages and tasks on the MAP. Add-only - existing items are never changed.

Set room branding

Write

"Apply Initech's branding to the room."

A banner and client logo applied to the room.

⚠️ Anything created through the connector is hidden from buyers until you unhide it. New tabs, sections, and MAP items land hidden by default. Sharing the room does not unhide them - open the room in Aligned and unhide each item when you are ready for your buyer to see it.

Important to know:

  • Reads are bounded by you - as a seller, ChatGPT sees deals you own. As a manager, it also sees rooms in your group. As an admin, it can access any room in the account, one room at a time.

  • Writes are always own-rooms-only, whatever your role. The connector cannot build in or modify a room you don't own.

  • ChatGPT asks you to confirm every write before it runs, and room builds come back as a plan for you to review before the room is created.

Limitations

  • Detailed room reads are one room at a time, including for admins. Cross-room comparison and account-level summaries are planned for a future release.

  • Write is own-rooms-only - you can't write to another user's room, even as an admin.

  • Content created through the connector is hidden until you unhide it in the app.

  • MAP tasks created through the connector are title-only. Owner, due date, and status are set in the app.

  • Only General tabs can be created. MAP and Files tabs are structural and cannot be added this way.

  • No new file uploads through the connector. Attach existing library assets or links; upload new files in the app.

  • Room building is best-effort. If one section fails, the rest still build, and you're told what to finish in the app.

  • Room creation is rate-limited to 10 rooms per 24 hours.

  • No admin visibility: Aligned Admins and Owners cannot see which sellers have connected the ChatGPT Integration or what they query.

Pro tips

  • Set up before your next call. Connect Aligned to ChatGPT before a customer meeting so you can pull live deal context in seconds.

  • Use ChatGPT to draft your follow-up. Ask ChatGPT to draft a follow-up email referencing specific content the buyer engaged with this week.

  • Review the plan before you build. A room build comes back as a plan first - read it, adjust it in the conversation, then approve.

FAQ

I get "This integration is available on the Enterprise plan only" - what does it mean?

The ChatGPT Integration requires an active Aligned Enterprise plan. Sellers on Free, Basic, or Pro plans cannot enable the integration. Contact your Aligned account Owner about upgrading to Enterprise, or click the Upgrade plan CTA on the ChatGPT card in Settings -> Integrations.

There's no Connectors or Developer Mode option in my ChatGPT settings

First, confirm you are on a paid plan - ChatGPT Free does not support custom MCP connectors at all, and a paid plan (Plus, Pro, Team, Business, or Enterprise) is required. If you are on a managed workspace (Team, Business, Enterprise), Developer Mode and connector creation are controlled by your admin - ask your workspace admin to enable Developer Mode and publish Aligned, using the admin steps in this article.

Why does ChatGPT say it can't find my deal?

The room name may not match what you queried, the room may be archived, or you may not have access to it in Aligned. Confirm the room is active in your account and try again with the exact room name. If it persists, contact Aligned support with the room name and the exact prompt you used.

I'm told the connector isn't authorized to write. What do I do?

You connected with read access only. Disconnect Aligned in ChatGPT, reconnect, and grant write access when the Aligned OAuth page asks.

My buyer can't see a section that was added. Why?

This is expected. Anything created through the connector is hidden from buyers by default, and sharing the room does not unhide it. Open the room in Aligned and unhide the tab or section.

Part of a room build failed. Did I lose the whole room?

No. Room building is best-effort - a failed section does not abort the rest. You're told what failed so you can add it in the app. If it keeps happening, contact support with the room name and the sections that failed.

What kind of data does ChatGPT get from Aligned?

ChatGPT can read your Aligned room data, including room title, URL, description, engagement signals, stakeholders, MAP / Next Steps, content interactions, and last activity. With write access granted, it can also create rooms, tabs, sections, and MAP items in rooms you own - always with your confirmation first. It cannot delete data and cannot see rooms you don't have access to.

Can ChatGPT see other sellers' deals in my account?

That depends on your role in Aligned. A seller's queries return only their own rooms. A manager can also query rooms in their group. An admin can query any room in the account, one room at a time. Building and editing is always limited to rooms you own, whatever your role.

Can admins query rooms they don't own?

Yes. An Aligned admin can ask ChatGPT about any room in the account, not only rooms they own, running the same read skills a seller runs on their own rooms. Admins query one room at a time, admins cannot write to a room they don't own, and cross-room comparison and account-level summaries are planned for a future release.

Does this work with Claude, Gemini, or Microsoft Copilot?

You can use the same connector URL with any AI tool that supports remote MCP servers. Aligned is also listed in Claude's Connectors Directory, so in Claude you can add it by name instead of pasting the URL - see the dedicated Claude Integration article.

What happens if my Aligned account is downgraded or I'm removed?

The OAuth token tied to your account is revoked automatically. Your next query from ChatGPT returns an authentication error. Reconnection requires an active Enterprise Aligned account.
