Salesforce Package Update

Written by Joice

Salesforce Package Update is the flow in Aligned that prompts your team to update to a newer version of the Aligned-Salesforce package when one is available. Updating to the latest package version keeps the Salesforce integration working and enables access to new features that depend on it. Only Aligned admins and owners on accounts with an active Salesforce integration see the update indicators. Regular Aligned users will not encounter this flow.

Prerequisites

  • Plan: Enterprise

  • Role: Admin or Owner in Aligned

  • Technical: Salesforce integration must already be connected to Aligned

How to update the Salesforce package if you are the System Administrator in Salesforce

  1. Click the Package update banner in the Aligned sidebar, or navigate to Settings → Integrations → Account integrations.

  2. On the Salesforce integration card, click Update now in the yellow alert.

  3. In the Salesforce Integration Update modal, confirm that I am the System Administrator in Salesforce is selected.

  4. Click Install in Salesforce. The Salesforce installation page opens in a new browser tab and the Aligned modal advances to Step 2 - Confirm.

  5. In the new Salesforce tab, sign in if prompted, choose Install for Admins Only (or another option if your team requires it), check the acknowledgement, then click Update.

  6. Wait for Salesforce to process the package update. Salesforce processes package updates asynchronously, so this can take several minutes.

  7. Return to the Aligned tab.

  8. Check I've submitted the package update in Salesforce.

  9. Click Confirm install..

  10. The Aligned modal closes. The yellow alert on the Salesforce integration card remains while Aligned verifies the update with Salesforce in the background.

When the verification succeeds, the yellow alert and the sidebar banner are removed automatically.

Forwarding the update to another System Administrator in Salesforce

If you have System Administrator access in Salesforce but want a colleague to handle the update, click Copy link in Step 1 of the modal. This copies the update URL so you can forward it directly to another System Administrator in Salesforce.

How to forward the Salesforce package update to your System Administrator in Salesforce

Salesforce requires System Administrator access to install or update managed packages, so the installation must be performed by your System Administrator in Salesforce.

  1. In the Salesforce Integration Update modal, confirm that I am not the System Administrator in Salesforce is selected.

  2. Click Copy update link.

  3. Paste the copied message into Slack, email, or any other channel, and send it to your System Administrator in Salesforce.

Once the System Administrator in Salesforce completes the update, Aligned automatically detects the update through Salesforce's webhook and removes the update indicators. No confirmation is required from you inside the Aligned modal.

Limitations

  • Only Aligned admins and owners on Enterprise accounts with an active Salesforce integration see the Salesforce package update indicators.

  • Regular Aligned users do not see the sidebar banner, yellow alert, or modal.

  • Salesforce processes package updates asynchronously, so verification can take several minutes after the update is submitted in Salesforce.

Troubleshooting & FAQ

Expected errors and blocks

"The package wasn't updated. Please install it in Salesforce, then confirm." Aligned attempted to verify the package update with Salesforce and Salesforce confirmed the package version had not changed. This can happen if the update was not completed in Salesforce, if Confirm install was clicked before the update was submitted in Salesforce, or if Salesforce returned an error during the update. How to fix it:

  1. Click Update now in the yellow alert on the Salesforce integration card.

  2. Confirm I am the System Administrator in Salesforce is selected.

  3. Click Install in Salesforce and complete the update in the new Salesforce tab.

  4. Return to Aligned, check I've submitted the package update in Salesforce, and click Confirm install.

How to avoid it: Confirm that Salesforce has displayed its update success screen before returning to Aligned and clicking Confirm install.

FAQ

Who in my Aligned account sees the Salesforce package update indicators?

Only Aligned admins and owners on Enterprise accounts with an active Salesforce integration see the sidebar banner, yellow alert, and modal for the Salesforce package update. Regular Aligned users do not see these indicators.

How does Aligned know who the System Administrator in Salesforce is?

Aligned identifies the System Administrator in Salesforce by matching the user account that originally connected the Salesforce integration to Aligned. The name of that user are shown in the modal when you select I am not the System Administrator in Salesforce. If the user shown is no longer the appropriate person, you can still forward the update link to the correct System Administrator in Salesforce using the Copy install link button.

What if I am not sure whether I am the System Administrator in Salesforce?

Check your user profile in Salesforce - your profile name will indicate whether you have System Administrator access. If you do not have System Administrator access in Salesforce, select I am not the System Administrator in Salesforce in the Aligned modal and forward the update link to your System Administrator in Salesforce.

Pro Tips

  • If you are the System Administrator in Salesforce but want a colleague to handle it, use the Copy link button in Step 1 of the modal. This copies the update URL only - send it to another System Administrator in Salesforce to update on your behalf.

  • Confirm that Salesforce has displayed its update success screen before clicking Confirm install in Aligned. Salesforce processes package updates asynchronously, so clicking Confirm too early can result in a failed verification.
